Breast Lifts Are Trending Up

by

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recently announced a new plastic surgery statistic which shows that breast lift surgery, also known as mastopexy has increased in popularity among women over the last decade. Since the year 2000 the number of breast lifts performed by plastic surgeons has increased 70 percent. Although breast implant surgery (breast augmentation) still outpaces mastopexies 2 to 1, breast lifts are catching up with more than 90,000 surgeries performed by ASPS member surgeons.

REASONS FOR BREAST LIFTS

  1. Saggy breasts
  2. Excess breast skin
  3. Mild breast atrophy or volume loss
Generally, women who have nursed their children, experienced fluctuations in weight, or were born with ptotic breasts are candidates for breast lifts. Aging and gravity also takes a toll on the shape and position of the breasts. According to ASPS stats, 70 percent of breast lifts in 2013 were performed on women between 30 to 54 years of age.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BREAST LIFT SURGERY?

Patients not interested in increasing the size of their breast with implants who still have an adequate amount of breast tissue for a lift are ideal candidates for the surgery. Not sure if you’re a candidate? Try the pencil test. Place a pencil under your breasts. If the pencil is easily held in place against your chest, then the sagging of the breasts can be improved with surgery.

RESULTS OF BREAST LIFT SURGERY

  1. Reduction of redundant skin
  2. Resolution of sagging breasts
  3. More youthful appearing breasts
