What do they mean by muscle repair (diastasis) with tummy tuck? Is it a hernia?

by

Many people are confused by the term muscle repair thtat occurs with an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).

The muscle separation occurs between the rectus abdominis mucles (the six pack) and causes a central bulge that is most commonly seen when laying down and attempting to lift your head up.

It is termed a diastasis recti. It is different from but sometomes confused with an umbilical or ventral hernia.

There are multiple causes but it most commonly appears after pregnancy, It may develop after other surgeries but that is more of an incisional hernia and is different from a diastasis recti.  It can occur naturally and even effects men.

I HAVE DEVELOPED A VIDEO WHICH USES A 3D CAT SCAN TO SHOW THE DIASTASIS RECTI BEFORE AND AFTER A TUMMY TUCK. PLEASE SEE THE VIDEO FOR A BETTER UNDERSTANDING.

I hope this helps!
