JuVaShape is a noninvasive treatment that harnesses radiofrequency energy to rejuvenate skin. It can be used on the face, neck, and chest (to diminish lines, firm lax skin, and even skin tone) as well as on the butt, thighs, and stomach (to improve the appearance of cellulite).Â
It’s often complemented by an additional treatment such as massage, when targeting cellulite, or microneedling, when targeting uneven skin tone or texture. According to Dr. Marilyn Pelias, a surgeon in New Orleans, JuVaShape can also be used to tighten and smooth irregularities after a surgical procedure like liposuction.Â
Most providers use JuVaShape machines called vShape or vShape Ultra that enable the doctor to tweak how the thermal energy penetrates different parts of the body. In all cases, the thermal energy penetrates below the skin’s surface via a handheld device. The heat immediately triggers the contraction of collagen bands, which provides some tightening right away. It also stimulates an increase in collagen production over time, which makes the skin firmer and plumper in the two to three months post-treatment.Â
JuVaShape is typically painless (people mostly report feeling a hot sensation), so no local anesthesia or topical numbing cream is required. There’s also no downtime.Â
For best results, most people require a series of JuVaShape treatments. Doctors on RealSelf typically recommend a series of six treatments, two to three weeks apart, though patients with more laxity may need as many as nine sessions.
Most RealSelf members say JuVaShape was “Worth It” for the moderate tightening and smoothing results. Just keep in mind that JuVaShape isn’t a fat reduction treatment, so it won’t work to address concerns such as a double chin.
