Phaedra: I've known a lot of my friends who have had the weight loss surgeries, they have the looseness in their arms and they really want to get that very tone look, but obviously due to excess skin they can't achieve it. What do you recommend for the upper arm area?

Dr. Centeno: Patients need to know a couple of things. There are three incisions; bicipital groove, a posterior and a low anterior incision. The low anterior incision, I think, is the best because it gives you the best contour correction from the elbow all the way up to the armpit with a scar that is easily hidden in most social situations. Finally, the most important thing is, you should always combine some degree of liposuction of the excess fat of the arm with skin tightening, because you get a much better longer lasting result after brachioplasty plastic surgery after weight loss. I would say avoid the minimal incision arm lifts in the armpit, not a very effective procedure.
