Arm tissue relaxes and even droops with age, gravity and weight loss. Patients are very unhappy with the bat wing appearance of their arms and are extremely conscious about this part of their body. Arm lift or brachioplasty removes excess skin and tissues, and reduces the fat from the upper arms.
Surgical correction depends on the amount of extra skin and how loose the supporting tissues have become. The incision for removal and tightening of the skin can be hidden in the armpit, if there is only a moderate amount of skin excess. If there is significant amount of skin to be removed, the incision is placed along the inner aspect of the arm to minimize visibility. Many of my patients benefit from this procedure after massive weight loss causes the excess skin of the arms to become loose.
