Hi I'm Larry Schlesinger, I'm a board certified plastic surgeon from Honolulu, Hawaii, and the question of the day is, "What is the recovery time from a labiaplasty?" In my practice, we only do the wedge technique, and therefore I can only speak to the recovery time for a wedge technique. I've had patients go back to riding horses within a week; scared me but she did not have a problem. I've had patients have intercourse eight or nine days, that also scared me but she did not have a problem. Normally, I recommend two to three weeks before intercourse. You can go back to work the next day. The level of pain is minimal. The way you treat the labia afterwords, is you get one of those squeeze bottles, have some soapy water in, and just put soapy water a couple times a day to keep it moist and keep it clean. The stitches that we put on the outside are promic(sp?) stitches, and they dissolve in about six or seven days. By seven or eight days, I can trim away most of them. The internal stitches, the stitches between the outside and the inside of the labia minora stay in for 30 days. The recovery time for doing almost anything, including the intercourse, for almost everybody is less than three weeks. Different people recover at different times. It depends on your feeling of pain and so on, but after seven, eight days, you're not going to rip anything apart. On the other hand, it's probably a good idea and a safe idea to wait three weeks. I'm Larry Schlesinger, I'm a board certified plastic surgeon, thank you very much.
