Dr. Shervin Naderi: Today, we’d like to talk about lip injection. In the series of lip injection videos we’ve done in the past, I’ve demonstrated Restylane lip injections and Juvederm lip injections. Today, we introduce Juvederm XC which is the exciting new filler. Essentially, it’s Juvederm with Lidocaine, making it much more comfortable especially for lip injection; which, in the past, we have to do dental block to make it comfortable for patients. But with Juvederm XC, we can actually do the injection without dental block, without the numbness feeling that lingers for about two or three hours and so, patients don’t prefer that. With the beautiful model that we’ve been working with here before with her lips thing, she’s here today for her Juvederm injection. And today, we’re going to do the Juvederm XC. It’s the first time for her and we’re going to be able to see whether she can tolerate without any numbing.

Female Voice: Hello.

Dr. Shervin Naderi: As you can see, it comes in a sterile package. And, we open the package, it’s very similar to Juvederm in the past, it has a sterile needle. Now, some of you have asked me before on the videos whether the procedure is sterile. By definition, anything that’s done around the mouth, around the nose, cannot be sterile because you cannot sterilize the lips and the nose completely. The orifices, there’s plenty of bacteria there. But this vial itself, the substance itself is sterile, and we use it only one time. Each patient gets their own.

What I’d like to do is start with [inaudible 00:01:29]. And what I’ll just do is just [inaudible 00:01:31] the lips, taking off a little bit of the bacteria. Luckily, the face and the lips are so vascular that infections are almost unheard of. It can occur but they’re extremely rare. What we’re going to do is start with a 30 gauge needle, which is one of the smallest needle you can get. The substance, as you can see, is a clear gel. And, we’re going to start from one corner and progressively move across the lips. But the [inaudible 00:02:03] is every single injection is done in the previous zone where there’s numb to begin with, so it makes it more comfortable. Now, the first [inaudible 00:02:10] you’ll feel but after that, it should be more comfortable. Ready?

Female Voice: Yes.

Dr. Shervin Naderi: [inaudible 00:02:19] normal effect [inaudible 00:02:20] with my hand, penetrate slowly, feel it penetrate. There’s two things, it introduces the lidocaine into the zone; more importantly, pushes the small blood vessel out of the way. So the injection results in less bleeding and bruising, although it can. Minimal bruising can happen, which are very vascular. I’m sure it’s not painless because she’s tolerating it very well. The patient’s [inaudible 00:03:00].

Female Voice: It’s great. It’s really comfortable.

Dr. Shervin Naderi: Good. Keep still. [inaudible 00:03:11] same zone again. Now, look [inaudible 00:03:38] side of the lateral prick. You can [inaudible 00:03:42]. Our patient here is a professional model so more exotic features are more desirable to her and her profession. So, every patient has there own preference. And while this is a 1cc syringe of Juvederm Ultra, there are even half-cc syringes which some patients go for [inaudible 00:04:11]. Barely bleeding. The [inaudible 00:04:35] of the lidocaine in the Juvederm Ultra XC is that, now you [inaudible 00:04:39] essentially not you can go back and and [inaudible 00:04:43] and it won’t be painful.

Now, we’re going to start with the bottom lip again. You’re going to feel this one. You’re doing very well. [inaudible 00:05:21] As you can see, this is very bearable. At this point, I’ll massage it[inaudible 00:05:53], make sure there’s no lumps or bump. [inaudible 00:06:00]. Look at the results. We’ll go back and fine tune. And when I’m do the fine tuning, [inaudible 00:06:09]. She likes to have the upper lip full. We’re done. Now, you going to see a little bruise, you going to feel a little lumpy bumpy for a few days but that’s the injection swelling around each injection site. That goes down in the first two or three or four days, you can cover it with make up. You can actually put lipstick immediately after. [inaudible 00:08:10] which takes 10 to 15 minutes for that to happen. I recommend ice at this point.

Juvederm XC Includes Lidocaine, so Bye Bye Dental Block!

Lip injections in the past have required dental blocks that leave the consumer numb for hours post-treatment. The new Juvederm XC's formula includes a small dose of Lidocaine so the consumer's lips become comfortably numb only during the treatment.
