What is liposuction and what is liposculpture? I'm smiling because I think a lot of patients are not clear about these two different terms. Really, they are the same thing. Liposculpture is a more artistic way of representing liposuction surgery. But in reality, it really is liposculpture, because it is a sculpting procedure. It's not just about putting a tool in and sucking the fat out. You are creating tunnels and contouring and sculpting in this layer between the skin and muscle. It's a very precise, very artistic procedure.

It's a very tactile procedure, too. It's so much about what you're not only seeing, but what you're feeling as you're going about doing your contouring and sculpting. So I think liposculpture is a good name for the procedure itself. Don't be too drawn into all these different terms, though, that are so aggressively marketed to call things something different, whether it's ultra lipo or smart liposuction or this and that. These are all just different approaches to liposculpture or liposuction surgery itself. Again, it's about choosing a surgeon and their skills and their artistic sense.
