Posted to I have dry eyes can I use Latisse ? on 20 Jan 2010
Latisse is a medication that is applied to the eyelids to cause eyelash growth. The preservatives if inserted into the eye can cause additional drying and side effects of the medication include redness. You should be able to use Latisse applied to your eyelids at bedtime according to the instructions even with dry eyes. I would recommend that you seek the care of an eyeMD and have your eyes examined to determined the cause of dryness. If the symptom of dryness is due to an eye infection, this should be treated first.

Fluctuating vision may occur for a few months after LASIK. Dryness may induce this so speak with your eyeMD about the best treatment options. Make sure to utilize preservative free tear preparations.
The operative report for custom procedures will usually say LASIK, as the CustomVue procedure is FDA approved for LASIK. As surgeons, we will perform CustomVue PRK procedures as well, off label. I would speak with your eyeMD if you have any concerns about the procedure that you underwent.

Dear LD It sounds from your description that you have some dryness following the enhancement. It is difficult to assess whether you may also have a small remaining prescription. There may be differences in healing with the type of procedure performed, whether for nearsightedness or farsightedness. The weather in Southern California this time of year is very dry and can exacerbate the dryness observed early after surgery. Over time, the dryness most often improves. Make sure you are using nonpreserved lubricant drops, the Restasis and an ointment, such as refresh PM at bedtime. Try not to have the heat on or a fan blowing especially in a car in your face. Patience and time often help, so try to practice this as well. Seek the care of an additional eyeMD if you are not getting the reassurance you need.

Dear Julie Allison's comments elucidate the nature of our individual healing responses. A tincture of time is often the best medicine prescribed along with patience and reassurance. Thank you Allison for your comments.
