I had a second treatment done which cleared up some of the horizontal striping on my chest, but still, 2 months later, my chest is 3 different colors, and seems it will never return to normal. I was super careful to use sunscreen/zinc, did everything I was told, but still never healed properly. My hunch is that this treatment is only for fair skinned people, not EVER for olive skin, even though I avoided sun for months beforehan. I'm still dealing with the outcome.
Thanks to all of you who have posted here. I had melasma for years from birth control pills. I stopped them a year ago and have seen some very slight lightening. I use Kinerase serum 1x/day, don't know if that's why. I now wear sunscreen, anything from spf15 to zinc oxide every day, but already have 44 years worth of Florida sun damage so...fighting a losing battle?! BTW, hydroquinone simply makes it worse. I am naturally medium skin color and tan easily; discovered through trial and error I'm not a good candidate for HQ, wondering if Vitamin C could have the same negative effect. I'm affraid to put ANYTHING other than water on my face now. I had IPL a week ago and am seeing a verrrry slow recovery, not at all what they told me in the medspa office ("no down time" ha! Not if you don't mind going around looking like a lepper). I'm worried about permanent effects. The Dr. collected a $50 deposit and when I asked for it back after treatment said "we'll just apply it to your next treatment" - but there won't be another. I will never have anything done again; it is better to live with what you have then risk making it worse, no matter what all the ads and glamorous young estheticians tell you.
