Find another doctor. It is likely not the filler (Restylane), it is the Filler (doctor) that determines the result. Perhaps this renowned plastic surgeon is well known because of surgical expertise, rather than being a good injector. Another option is to try Juvederm, Restylane's competition
I must confess that after injecting Botox into the crows feet of a few thousand patients over the past 13 years this is a new one on me. I have never seen this and am at a loss to explain the event. I'd suggest you and your docotr review your before and after photographs.
Often as we age, we lose volume and fullness of our mid-cheek. This loss of mid cheek volume results in a flattening of the profile and increases the shadowing under the eyes that accentuates undereye circles. This results in a tired, drawn appearance. The loss of mid-cheek volume also accentuates nasolabial folds, giving a sad appearance. The best treatment other than a mid cheek lift surgically (which just tightens skin, but does not restore the cheek volume) is the injection of a dermal filler to fill, restore and lift the mid cheek. I use Juvederm Ultra Plus, Perlane, Radiesse, and Sculptra for this technique. The best choice should be made by you with the guidance of a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon familiar with this emerging technique.
The most common cause of a tired look is loss of mid-cheek volume, making the central part of the face below the eye look sunken. The concavity or flattening results in shadowing that makes you look flat, gaunt, tired. It also accentuates any darkness or bags under the eye. The quickest effective remedy is filler injections. Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, Radiesse, and Sculptra can all be effective, depending on technique used and the experience of the dermatiologist. Surgery is also an option that can be explored. Cheek implants and mid-face lift may be alternatives that last longer than fillers.
