I also recently had a closed rhinoplasty to remove the hump on the bridge of my nose (09/04/09). I was completely disappointed to see that the bump was still there and VERY prominent when the bandages came off one week later. My doctor told me that what I was seeing was residual swelling, and it would take months for the bump to go down.
One month later, much to my frustration, the bump had BARELY gone down. Even my mother thought the procedure wasn't properly done. I was devestated, and I cried a lot during those few weeks. I finally booked another appointment with my doctor about 5 weeks post-op. Again, my doctor reminded me that my nose was still healing. She looked inside my nose and claimed that the nose would first heal itself on the inside before healing on the outside. She said that everything looked great on the inside so far and to be patient because these things take months to heal, and I probably wouldn't see the results I wanted until the 3rd month, post-op. I was still a tad skeptical, but I felt much better having spoken with her again.
It has now been 2 months post-op and the bridge of my nose is ALMOST completely straight. I feel much more secure about the procedure than I did one month ago. I can see the swelling start to go down bit by bit almost everyday now and I'm SO much happier. My advice to anyone who is unhappy with their results a few weeks after surgery is DON'T lose hope! BE PATIENT! Chances are your doctor was very conservative in the removal of your hump and what you're seeing is residual trauma from the surgery itself and it WILL go down after time. The bump on my nose was hard and it felt like bone, not soft or spongey like I thought it should. I thought for sure my doctor messed up my nose, but I'm much much happier with the results now.
Hope that helps! :)
