Wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.
I am very busy and make it a matter of personal discipline to answer questions on Realself. I derive no personal or financial gain from posting about the Zerona laser.
I am not hiding my identity like others, who are posting in support of the Zerona laser. Ask yourself who is more likely to be credible: someone with a financial conflict of interest or someone with no financial conflicts of interest? If these posters had a meritorious position and no conflict of interests, would they be hiding their identity?
I think it is reasonable to wonder if the enthusiastic supporters of the Zerona laser stand to financially gain by bashing people on this forum who question the value of the Zerona Laser. This does not seem to be a viable long term strategy. Rather it makes them look petty and ridiculous.
I personally do not believe the so-called science upon which the device was cleared for market is very good. It seems that the FDA also shares these concerns. Again, I think it would be very help for the public if the supporters for the Zerona laser hiding in the shadows of this forum would post the Company response to the January 2011 FDA letter.
Dr. Steinsapir
I am an optimist. I would like think that you would not be using a device on the public if you believed it did not work. Does it occur to you that like members of the public, perhaps you have been lead to believe things about this service that are not accurate? You dismiss the concerns of the FDA at your own risk. It is their mission to protect the public.
My advice to the public who have had the service is to make their concerns known to the attorney general of the state they live in. Most attorneys general offices have a consumer affairs division. If there are enough consumer complaints, they will look into the matter.
I am not sell the service. If you read my posts you would know that I am a patient advocate. Much of my practice is surgically fixing the work of others. One of the reasons I work so hard at this site is that so many have not told the truth and it is hurting the public. I would rather educate someone so they avoid having a foreseeable surgical complication than have them end up in my office for the repair. I have enough business.
I don't think the Zerona laser is dangerous. Rather it is my opinion that the science that the device is based on is questionable. Don't bash people who post here because it is your experience that this service should work for them. If it works for anyone it is because of the structure of the program not because the low energy laser (which has an energy profile of a laser pointer) was shined on the outside of the body and melt their fat or alter fat metabolism. If the program works, it is most likely because people doing the service are compliant with the requirement to eat less and exercise more. The low energy lasers in this system don't pass through the skin. So it should not be surprising that the method fails people.
Having read the clinical studies of the device, I do not believe a proper comparison study to evaluate the effectiveness of the device has been performed.
Liposuction is effective for body sculpting but requires expensive surgery. The Zerona laser takes advantage of the public desire to avoid surgery. The question of how effective this service is remains a valid one. People do not like paying thousands of dollars for a service that does not live up to its hype.
The concerns of the FDA in the January 2011 address more than technical manufacturing issues. It also addresses whether the company has provided proper support for many of the claims they have made to the public. We are all waiting to read the company response to this letter.
