With the LSL, you can expect a scar starting about an inch above each ear, running inside or in front of the ear, behind the ear, and then down just behind the hairline as far as necessary (depending on how much lifting is needed). Most of the scar should be hidden behind the hairline and, if it is run inside the ear, that part too will be well-hidden. If neck liposuction is indicated, there will be an additional small scar below the chin where the cannula is inserted to vacuum and scrape out excess fat. The doctor will use a marker to map out a section of skin to be removed from each side the face. Once the mapped-out skin is excised, the remaining skin is stretched back toward each ear and sutured with permanent internal sutures and external sutures that will be removed later. When a face lift is performed under general anesthesia, the skin is typically peeled away from the face, repositioned and sutured. This results in more post-op pain and swelling, but can give more dramatic and longer-lasting results. As well, the internal sutures of an LSL have been known to poke through the skin as the face heals and swelling recedes. Another (much simpler) surgical procedure would be required to correct this. The Lifestyle Lift ads say, “Results are immediate, return to work quickly looking like you did 20 years ago.” Aftercare is so important with any plastic surgery, in my opinion it is irresponsible of LSL to minimize the trauma and recovery time required. Very few Lifestyle Lift patients can return to normal activities in less than a week. Two to three weeks is probably more the norm. After a face lift under general anesthesia, the patient is usually pretty out of it for several days, which may be a good thing. Rest, tight wrapping, minimal eating and talking all help insure the best possible result. The wrapping holds the skin tightly in its new location so it can firmly reattach and also minimizes swelling. Rest and minimal movement allow the body time and energy to heal itself. Better Business Bureau Complaint Against Lifestyle Lift Lifestyle Lift ads have come under fire by the National Advertising Division of the Better Business Bureaus. The Bureau alleges that the LSL claim “return to work quickly looking like you did … 20 years ago” is unsupported and that “quickly” is too vague and needs to be defined. As well, the Bureau points out that in the before photos the women have their chins tucked in; while in the after shots, theirs chins are lifted and jutting forward. And of course, they have no makeup in the before shots but are beautifully made up in the afters. The Lifestyle Lift company says it will take the Better Business Bureau’s recommendations into account in future advertising. The Bureau plans to monitor LSL ads for the suggested changes. If they are not forthcoming, Lifestyle Lift can be reported to the FTC for action.
