Leslie, my original surgery for breast augmentation cost 6,000 dollars and the explant 8 years later cost 8,000 and that did not include a lift. I know you didn't ask this but I can't tell you just how much money this has cost me in the long run. First of all I am totally disabled so we are talking lost wages for 7 years, medical bills that have been mostly a waste of time since I've been mis-diagnosed many times. Then there is the cost of those things that money can't buy. That is the most difficult aspect of this nightmare. Years lost in the prime of my life and knowing now that I will never have children. My career down the tubes. A career that I loved so much that I always felt that I couldn't believe I was getting paid to do it. Not many people can say that. Oh, and I can't forget the friends I've lost since people don't deal well with illness. How did I pick my surgeon??? Lots and lots of research on the internet so I knew exactly what needed to be done and then I went to a local surgeon and just told him straight out this is how I want the implants and capsules removed. He was not thrilled about it but he agreed and I wrote up a form asking him to sign so that I would know that he would do just as I wanted. He refused and came out with his own form which I looked over with a fine tooth comb and we finally came to an agreement. I would have much rather have traveled to one of the 'top' surgeon's but I was so ill, I could barely walk let alone travel and didn't have a travel partner. Sorry, more information than you asked for but I think that ladies reading this need to know that getting implants can be very costly.

I agree! That capsule must come out with saline implants as well as silicone gel. I would hate to see where I'd be today if I had not had my capsules removed. One was infected and surrounded (in the capule) with abscesses and when I had them analyzed, a tumor was found in one. I've also heard many doctors justifying why they don't remove the capsule for saline implants due to the chemicals not leaching out of a saline implant. So, I must ask myself if that were true then how on earth did I get silicone poisoning from smooth saline implants??? Something to ponder................
