Too many doctors and estheticians go for the quick fix when it comes to treatments. They ignore the fact that you really need to prep the skin with lightening agents before starting peels and they take too aggressive an approach when it comes to chemical peels and lasers. Treatments should be done in a progressive, not aggressive, series to enable the skin's cells to adjust and react properly to the changes. Aggressive treatments overstimulate and shock the cells causing the melanocytes to inflame and overreact. After treatments, you need to keep the skin hydrated and not use acids and retinols until the skin has healed. You can't win a fitness competition if you don't diet and work out first.
Saunas and steam baths are the WORST advice when it comes to reversing pigment damage. Sun, heat, hormones and scarring are the leading causes of hyper pigmentation. Avoid the sun and heat like the plague and always use a broad spectrum spf of 30 to protect against both uva and uvb rays. Image Skincare has the best one I have found. It is the Daily Defense Ultimate Preventive SPF35.
