This sounds very normal to me, especially if you had double surgery! Ask your doctor about taking Tylenol or Advil but if you don't have any other health problems this shouldn't be an issue. I think you can probably start doing things like walking before the 6 weeks is up as long as you remember you have stitches inside that need to heal. Hang in there :)
Patience is everything with the swelling. I did have to rethink my body shape for several months (slimmed down in the waist but couldn't wear anything tight in the abs.). But it does even out and go down in the end! Really! :)
I did it because I live in a loft but it will be hard for you to get up and down and you need to stay in the position your surgeon recommends. The same day you get your surgery might be pushing it. Do you have a sofa downstairs? You need to sleep with your head and legs elevated and I found my loveseat was perfect. I covered it with a dropcloth just in case, under the sheets.
Everyone's different but I think that's pretty normal, I was swollen in the lower abdominal area for a few months. Did you also have lipo? Are you wearing a support garment? I found that my best bet the first few weeks after surgery was a belted dress with a slight a-line skirt, that way I could show off my waist and hide the swelling in the lower ab area. But I didn't have any lipo. I can't remember how long before I got into my jeans. Be patient :) it will look great.
