    That makes no sense.

Orthodontics can set up favorable conditions for TMJ to develop. However, orthodontics can often correct those conditions as well. The most important aspect of preventing TMJ is to get a stable bite. This means that Invisalign is not always an option. When selecting an orthodontist, do not push him to do thing he knows is not ideal. If they tell you Invisalign is not for you, don't do it.

The button is actually made from the same composite material we use to fill teeth. It sticks by itself. It cannot cause a cavity. It most likely was a coincidence. The only time I have seen cavities while wearing Invisalign was caused by improper hygiene. Did you brush your teeth between every meal? Did you floss twice per day? It is usually not possible to only treat the bottom because the upper teeth hold them into place. You have to reorient the top teeth to allow the bottom ones to move to the proper position. I suggest you enroll in an orthodontic program before you comment publicly on a specialized area of medicine.
  • Posted to Loose Teeth from Invisalign a Normal Occurence? - North York, ON on 10 Oct 2009

The looseness of your teeth is medically called "mobility" and is divided into 3 classes. Class I = 1mm of movement, Class II=2mm, and Class III=3mm. Class I mobility is completely normal with orthodontic movement, because your teeth move by resorbing bond around the root in front of the tooth, and filling bone in behind. This is why it is so important to wear a retainer after treatment.

I use Invisalign regularly at a practice in St. Louis. It is completely normal to not notice what are sometimes very subtle changes being made. My of my patients for get what their teeth looked like in the beginning. As long as your doctor sees your teeth tracking in the trays, they are doing their work. Remember, the final result is what matters.
