Hi mnjolson, I am jealous that you could walk and do elliptical on your 2nd week and then light jogging with weights. The literature from my surgeon says 'Avoid exercise, heavy lifting and any activity that raises your blood pressure or pulse for at least 1 month after surgery. The blood vessels are still healing and an increase in activity can cause bleeding."
Did you have extensive muscle repair? I am almost 3 weeks post and still can't stand up straight. Because of that and associated back pain, I can only walk a wee bit. Doctor said walking at 2 weeks. I was anticipating hour long strolls instead of my usual hour+ hard runs....nope still not possible at 3 weeks. And yeah, all this sitting and trying to figure out the right amount to eat for inactivity is crazy.
I could shower when the drains came out..which was 5 days. I also had 2 C sections (emergency ones) and I thought this would be similar. Way worse. The muscle repair makes it hard to move and lifting each layer takes way more healing than lifting out a baby. And no happy baby hormones! I only had help for 4 days. Definitely plan on not doing anything for a week and have someone to do everything for you. I just passed 2 weeks and still can't stand up straight or walk much.
Wow! Trigirl you were back to a great amount of training at 9 weeks. Did you have extensive diastasi recti before and hence lots of muscle repair. I am 2 weeks post op today from my full TT and still can't stand up straight or walk more than wee bit. The surgeon keeps saying that recovery will be fast because of being in great shape, but this is worse than I thought. Physios are saying no running until at least 12 weeks. At 6 weeks we are supposed to start with pelvic stuff and work up. Surgeon said walking at 2 weeks...I was picturing going for a brisk walk for an hour. Nope! I will go crazy without my daily fix of sweat and endorphins.
The things I missed in my pre-research! Dog ears! My surgeon's nurse said if things look messy after a few months than the surgeon can do a little local freezing, scar removal...takes 20 minutes. So I guess that is good. But then more healing required, right?
Hi! I know 12 weeks sounds like forever! But I don't want to 'ruin' anything and have to go through this again. The muscle repair was extensive and that takes time to heal. I'm going to work with a physio who specializes in women's health. I'll see her at 6 weeks and start with pelvic floor, to core to standing to some time in the future...running! The surgeon says 6 weeks, but physios stand by 12 weeks.
