Megan, I did not know about asking for pictures between the lab and the dentist. Thanks. I hope I do not have to get this done again. Though I am not sure how long veneers will actually last.

It's been a year since the permanent veneers have been on. They do feel like real teeth now, however, there IS that awareness and feeling that you shouldn't bite into anything too hard, like an apple. Even hamburgers and sandwiches give me hesitation and I'm careful. I still would not recommend it unless you are completely aware that your real teeth are shaved down to nubs. This was not explained to me before the procedure. I understood that they needed to be sanded in order for the cement to hold more securely, which made sense to me. I didn't know my real teeth would be permanently damaged. I am hoping these veneers last as long as my real teeth would. Also, they are not the shape I thought they would be. I understood that I would have a chance to see the fit and the look before committing to them. This was not really true. I mean, once your mold is made and sent to be made into veneers, you don't really get to keep ordering new veneers. And you don't want to wait so long either for the new order because the meantime is painful! If I would have received the ideal shape and size teeth I wanted, perhaps I would be more satisfied now. But as it is, I am stuck with these until they fall off. I didn't realize I could have just gotten braces to space my teeth a little closer and not had so much damage done. That was all I really wanted. After the veneers were put on, the dentist used a mini-saw between my teeth to carve out the cement which prevented me from flossing. It carved up through my gums, and this was the space that I wanted to avoid in the first place of getting my veneers! I wanted to avoid gaps between my teeth and gums! This is the whole reason for my investment and ordeal.

Are you sure she is covered in scabs? Or is it thin brown flakes of skin? If it is thin flakes of skin, she should be fine. Just don't pick at them and keep the skin moisturized. They will peel/flake off on their own. This happened to me the first time, and I also have very tan skin. There was a definite improvement in smoothness. However 5 days ago (4 months later) I had a second treatment and now I have what looks like open soars/blistering. I wonder if I will get scabs after all. The doctor has suggested petroleum jelly and prednisone, but it doesn't feel good on my face. It's been a week since you posted this; has there been any good results? Kindly let me know. Thanks.

I had a patch test done 4 months ago on 4 inches of my cheek. It hurt so badly, I almost told the dermatologist to stop. I cried all evening from the pain, with ice compresses on it. After a week, the brown spots finally fell off and there was improvement in skin tone. Five days ago I went for the whole face. It was EXTREMELY painful, and the burning after was more than I could handle. The staff was surprised with my reaction of pain and eventually I was given valium and vicodin, which they said is unusual, but I requested it. Doctor had increased intensity from last time and now I have open wounds. I'm slathered with Vasoline, which he says should help. I'm frightened of the result and I feel badly burned. I'm very brown colored to begin with. I wish he hadn't increased the intensity.

Thank you very much for your post. At least I know I'm not the only one who has regrets about veneers, and who has this constant sensitivity and pain! I did not know about the teeth being whittled away so much either! I was told, "we have to sand the bottom so that it's smooth and the veneer sticks better. Otherwise if it's slightly jagged, it will come off." This made sense to me, but I thought it was a thin shave, not an all-around sawing-off of my teeth! Permanent! How do dentists get away with not telling us that we're going to have nubs for the rest of our life?!! There is no form to sign about all the permanent damage and side effects. And once you have them, you are stuck getting them replaced for the rest of your life! The dentist tells me this as I'm walking out the door, with the temporaries already in place! I, too, was under the impression that the veneers were permanent! Though no one told me that, I just assumed something so expensive would be permanent! They should not tell you as you're walking out the door AFTER the procedure!
