It's funny you say that because my friend had a reduction with Dr. Hammond about 8 years ago. I sent her an email with my "after photo" (the one with a bra on!) and she said that hers look just like mine lol. I really should update with some new pics, now that I'm 2 months post op! At my 5 week post-op appointment, Dr. Hammond wasn't completely satisfied with my results since I'm not as symmetric as he would prefer. I go back again in Sept. for another check up so he can evaluate then if he would like to make any corrections. I think though, at this point, I would probably decline corrections because I'm still 1000% satisfied with my results :)
One more thing- I liked having a few of those large, non-stick pads on hand to put under the bottom of my bra to ease the pressure across my incisions. I also had a very bad reaction to the Norco pain meds they gave me (worst migraine I've ever had, dizziness, etc), so I would recommend having some extra strength Tylenol on hand in case the prescription meds don't agree with you. For me, the Tylenol seemed to be enough for pain anyway.
No ice or heat during recovery. You will want to pick up a few cheap, front closure sports bras to wear. They'll give you one surgical bra right after surgery that you'll wear home (you'll actually have it on already when you wake up from the surgery). I preferred to sleep sitting in a reclining position for about the first week, since lying flat on my back hurt more. A recliner works well, or, I discovered, replacing my pillow with my son's bean bag chair was pretty comfortable too :) If you don't have anyone staying with you, I recommend having someone bring you meals for at least the first few days because you aren't going to want to do much for those first few days. You also won't be able to drive for 5-7 days after surgery, since moving your arms a lot right afterward is painful. Recovery wasn't near as bad as I thought it would be. I was sleeping on my stomach again by about 4-5 weeks post op. I'm 8 weeks post op now, my incisions are completely healed, and I'm feeling great! :) Dr. Hammond wasn't 100% thrilled with my results at my 5 week post-op appointment, so I'm going back again in Sept for him to take a look. They're not identical, but to me, they're still 200% better than they were before, so I may even decline any revisions that he might recommend at my next appointment. I still think they look fantastic! Good luck with your surgery! Best decision I ever made :)
Cindy- I have a spot like that too. I was just at the doctor a few weeks ago (I'm 6 weeks post op) and he said it's just an area of delayed healing. I need to keep a bandaid on it, and no moisturizer and no chlorine or saltwater exposure until it's healed.
