  • Posted to PAPER TAPE: Who has used paper tape on their incisions, and HOW LONG did you use paper tape for?? on 12 Apr 2013

Hi Ems, Please see my post below about taping. I think taping is very beneficial. I was dreading this surgery because of my past experience with scarring. I taped for nearly 5 months and I would do it again. As I said below, my scars are barely visible, not raised, not red. I applied a small amount of vitamin e oil to my scars and applied the tape over it. My PS said the oil works like glue so that the tape stays put, but did not think it made a difference on the scars.

My surgery was December 6th and I just stopped taping one week ago. My scars are flat and barely visible. I also used silicone tape which I preferred because it was gentler on my skin. I think the tape was very beneficial and since I stopped taping I feel more sore and a little more swollen. In my opinion, there is only upside to taping, it won't hurt and if there is a chance at improving the scarring, why not do it?
  • Posted to December Breast Reductions Check In Here on 12 Feb 2013

I am 10 weeks post op and my ps told me at my 6 week check up that I no longer needed to sleep in a bra. I questioned him on this and he said he would be best if I slept in a bra for 3 months:(. I also hate sleeping in a bra, so I give myself a break from it a couple of days per week.

Hi Dancegirl, I am in my 50's and had my first consult about getting a reduction when I was about your age. I always talked my self out of it. I finally had it done in December and I am so glad I did. However, because of your age, you may have conerns that older women do not have. I assume that you do not have any children and if you intend to have kids, I would be sure to discuss the effects of the reduction on your ability to breast feed. Many women do breastfeed after a reduction and this may not be foremost on your mind now, but it may be oneday:) I wish I would have done it sooner because I never wore the cute tops other girls my age wore because I was so self concious about my large breasts, and the relief from the constant back, neck and shoulder pain has been immediate. Good luck, don't let fear and anxiety influence your decision. (I know it is easier said than done!)

I strongly recommend that you get a surgical bra. Marena makes good ones. Get one with at least a 2 inch band at the bottom, this keeps it from riding up and rubbing on the incisions. I am 8 weeks post op and have tried a variety of bras, but I am still most comfortable in the bra my PS gave me after the surgery. I was 34dd/ddd pre op and was sent home in a size large. It felt tight at first, but became looser as the swelling decreased. You may want to ask Kimmers (community manager on this topic) because she posted a link to a website for surgical bras. If you buy a surgical bra it will be the best $50 you spend this year;)
