Good for you! Congrats on making the decision. I hear you on hating your own nose. People may say you have a nice nose. I dont think its THAT bad, but mine wasn't THAT bad either. I saw uglier noses. But, so what? Mine could be better. And I did it! I did it 5 days ago, along with a breast augmentation (yup thats right might as well fix a couple of things while i am at it, my hubbys not going to serve me hand and foot for two surgeries!). Wow, pleasantly surprised. No pain, no bleeding, no packing. You know what, you will research and you will make your lists and you will probably over buy supplies. Thats ok. Your a woman and we are super organized. We are wired like that! And most likely, you will be pleasantly surprised too! Good luck.
You will feel so good about your decision after! You should be very
proud of yourself that you are brave enough to do the surgery! It takes a lot of courage and that should say something. Good that your doing it young girl. I am 5 days post op. I am 40 years old and mother of 2. I wished i did it before i got married! Or before I had children. Now i have years and years worth of pictures with my old nose! Yuk. Comments on your supplies list: Good job! Being prepared and knowing what to expect .. makes your recovery easy. Because there is no surprises right? I myself bought a whole lotta stuff. Didnt use half of it. Because I didnt bleed! Very very little discharge. NO pain, no packing or stents. I researched on taking all these vitamins before and after. Be careful, one site will tell you to take Vitamin E before and the hospital tells you not to. If you dont already take these vitamins, dont start now. I took none. And I look great. and I am a lot older! the one thing i focused on was am amazing diet. I eat like a champ. Even if I am not hungry. Your body needs to heal and can not do it on salty soups and crakers. I doubled up on protein (protein shakes, Greek yogurt - high protein, my famous "straccciatella" soup. Thats Italian. Chicken broth, mini meatballs and eggs beaten with some parmesan cheese. Throw the eggs in the soup and stir. That what the name rag soup comes from. High protein as well with the eggs and meat. Get that yucky fiber pellats and throw it in the yogurt. Buy fish, shrimps scallops. High protein. The day after surgery you will be eating light. The anestesia makes you groggy and out of it for a couple of days. Soups, jello, ice cream. Lots of straws it is hard to eat. If someone wants to help you, have them prepare all these foods and put in fridge for you. A couple of days after surgery you will be eating so if its already in your fridge, you will be likely to eat well!! I bought veggie fruit drink which has a lot of sugar in it so..I dont know is it all that good for you?? Hmmm, Make a chart next to your bed and write down when you take medicine. Put an alarm clock on or have your helper remember when to give you next dose! Button down tips, you dont want to risk your top hooking onto your nose when you take it off. So, Most importantly FIBER FIBER FIBER, you will def get constipated. I was concentrating on the other diet stuff like protein and veggies. I forgot about the fiber. Its a job to remember to get all this food in your system when your not even hungry!! Good luck and you will do just fine! Remember eat well.
In terms of swelling after the cast was removed, what can i expect. I am getting mine off tomorrow Thursday. Does the swelling go down substantially the week after the cast comes off?
Good luck! I am also getting cast removed Thursday. So far so good with recovery. I am pleasantly surprised of how easy the recovery has been for me. I eat well, very well, and rest. I have had no pain, no bleeding. The anesthia is what made me sick and out of it for a couple of days. All I can say is Dr. Oakley Smith of Toronto, Canada is amazing. Bedside, professional and kind. But most importantly, skilled and super experienced. This is his field.
