For all black ink, there is no reason to use anything but a Nd:yag laser with a 1064 frequency. It is by far the safest and very effective on black ink and safe with any color skin. Look for the most current laser that has atleast 1 joule. Better a 1.6 or 2 joule laser. Pick your provider by experience lever in tattoo removal. Do NOT get treated with a Chinese laser.
  • Posted to Can Switching Lasers After 4 Tattoo Removal Treatments Cause Scarring or Affect the Removal Process? on 24 Jan 2013

You should see better results with the Revlite. It's a 1.6 Joule laser with an 8mm spot size. The Alma is 1:0 j with max 6mm spot. We are seeing an increasing number of people using groupons and switching providers numerous times. Laser setting protocols vary during the course of treatments. Not knowing exactly what was done before forces us to back-off on the settings to avoid injury. That causes clients to have more treatments which hurts the economic savings from switching numerous times.

I agree that black tattoos are likely to have very good results. You may want to consider the R20 protocol. We have had very good results with it. As always, the laser and the person using it are the most important parts of the equation. Hope that helps.

If you go to a dermatologist be very diligent in asking him/her questions. How much tattoo removal do they do? What laser do they use? Do they own the laser or rent it. Who performs the treatments and what are their qualifications and experience. DO NOT get treated with anything but a Q switched nd:YAG laser. It's the only one that's safe on darker skin types. Red and black are not a challenge. Lastly, I would recommend lasers that have at least 1 joule. And a spot size of 6mm and a repetition rate of 6-10 More is better on all these measures. Hope that helps
  • Posted to On Second Treatment of Laser Tattoo Removal and Im Starting to Notice Areas on the Black Ink Starting to Turn Brown? on 24 Jan 2013

Black turning brown is very common. We have done over 6,000 treatments and see it in about 30% of clients. Many color changes occur for a variety of reasons. Most are due to ink composition.
