As long as you have support for the first few weeks after surgery and you are not nursing your baby. You will be on lifting restrictions for a while, potentially pain meds, and will need PLENTY of rest. Have meals prepared ahead to freeze and reheat, someone to help with laundry and groceries, and someone to help with carrying, snuggling and tending to the baby. Also, read as many posts here as you can to see what other possible struggles you can anticipate in your situation. Many good tips here from the women who are post op and nothing that you really can't have a contingency plan in place for. Over preparing now will be worth it not to have to stress after. Best fo luck to you, and I wish you a speedy recovery! :)

I'm 9 weeks po today and I'm really no different than when I posted. Lefty is responsive to touch and cold, but zero feeling. Righty is still healing, did not have favorable outcome with appearance or shape, but I can feel it despite the scar tissue I'm forming. So wierd....

Everyone is different but a few things to thing about are: depending on the method your PS uses, will you be able to shower right away or will it be a week or so? Raising your arms up will be difficult at first, so perhaps someone to help the first couple of times? At least consider having someone in the room just in case you feel weak or faint--many women do the first few times. Also, reaching up into cabinets or shelves will be difficult for a couple weeks. I didn't feel much like cooking, and wasn't to drive for at least a week, so have a plan for that--even if it's only someone stopping in a few times a day. You'll likely spend a good amount of your time sleeping/resting, but having someone nearby can be a great comfort. I suggest reading lots of posts here from women who are already past surgery and take hints from what they went through. Everyone is a bit different when it comes to pain tolerance, need for emotional support and the actual procedure/restrictions after, but you can at least gain some good ideas and apply them to your own situation. Good luck to you! Waiting for my letter was the most agonizing part of the whole process! Can't wait to hear your success story in the near future! :)

By now you've been through your surgery, and I'm hoping everything went well for you. My biggest source of support and comfort has been this group for sure! I didn't find it until after my surgery but one of the best things is that no matter what I've felt, thought or seen on my body, I've found at least one other person who has also been through the exact same thing here! The women here are amazing! WIshing you a speedy recovery! :)
  • Posted to Sleeping Position Question and Itchy!!! on 28 Jan 2013

I was 5+ weeks post op. I made a nest of pillows around me so I wouldn't turn over while sleeping. I'm 9 weeks p/o today and I'm still a bit uncomfortable fully on my side--especially when I first wake up and everything is 'settled' in the side sleeping position. I have to stand up slowly and hang on to the ladies just a bit while they shift forward and readjust. Kimmers' pillow idea is great and really works. Just take it slowly and your body will naturally find it's most comfy position--let pain be your guide. Happy healing to you! :)
