You and are almost the exact same. I am 50, 5 feet 3 inches, and at the time of surgery was "glup" 175! I've come down to 167 now and working towards getting down to 130s. After surgery you really don't loose that much weight. Unless you have a lot to cut off, I think most of it was not eating too much. I got Norco for pain (eat something before you take it, trust me!) I didn't feel like eating too much but crazy as it sounds those instant mashed potatoes, bananas and toast helped. Take the pain meds every 4 hrs as they tell you, don't be a hero! I weaned myself off after 4 weeks to ibuprofen. After a week I would just strech out the time between the pills and eventually off.
I'm so excited for you! I remember anticipating my surgery and reading about people who had theirs done already, jealous! I'll try to post a current, much more flattering, photo so you can see what my 5 month scar looks like. Take care and I'll be watching :)
I've been in the medical field (Veterinary Nurse for 20 yrs) and for the past 7-1/2 years have been a medical transcriber and medical editor. I come across a lot of reports of DVTs and you just take in signs and symptoms of what to watch for. I did my reasearch on my doctor for three months. Looked at his facility and knew I was in good hands. That was first. The DVT is there with any surgery. My advice is walk, more than I did, the day after. I think I did not walk as much as I should have. Family, while great, won't push you when they see the hunched over, in pain person you are. So give them permission to make you walk once an hour no matter what you say! LOL
Sighns and symptoms: pain behind my left knee, more painful w/walking and better when resting. Kind of a nagging pain like a charlie horse, ya know? I've been on Xarelto since January and had no hospital stay time :) I go back in 2 weeks for them to reultrasound both legs to make sure it is gone. I may be 50 but relatively acitve, helathy w/no family history of DVTs etc so my long term effects from this are very, very low.
My current photo is out of date, I look so much better than that now and the scar is slowly fading :) Every day I look in the mirror and know it was a great decision for me. Now I have to work on the thighs!! LOL But I think that is much more do able than trying to get rid of hangging skin. Best of luck to you and don't worrie, you will be fine! Just research your doc, ask for a tour of the facility and look for cleaness. If they don't want to give you a tour, somehting is up ;) Take care.
I know what you mean, mine is not totally even on each side, one is a bit higher than the other. But I'm 6 weeks out and my scar is fading, and yours will too. It takes a while for everything to "settle" so don't beat yourself up too much right now. You will look back at these photos in 6 weeks and say 'wow I look so much better."
Feeling great! Numbness is getting less and less. The staff is great and my scar is healing nicely. They are top notch in my book. I did suffer from a DVT, which was scary, but that is one of the risks as you know. It's all good now. It does get better each day. My advice is to rest, have support at home for at least a week. Don't do too much too fast afterwards. Good luck, you will do great.
