No, I heard that if they didn't give you any trouble that you should leave them alone. It wasn't until later that I realized that some of my health issues might be related to my implants. Sad... No? Especially since I work in healthcare. You'd think I'd know different.
I'm so glad that you finally had your consult with Dr. Melmed. He and his staff sound very dedicated. I'm curious, did he mention any kind of detox regimen for after surgery? Now that my implants are out I want to do all that I can to help my body heal further. My plastic surgeon was a great surgeon but I don't think that he believed that silicone could cause systemic problems, so I didn't even ask him.
Now you're having to play the waiting game. It seemed like it took forever for my surgery date to arrive. Now it seems like it was so long ago. Hang in there.
I think you've chosen a very good doctor to see. In doing my presurgery research I ran across Dr. Melmed's name many times. I believe he is one of the best explantation surgeons in the country so I think you are in good hands. I think that he believes that leaking silicone implants cause a whole range of medical problems so he will probably be sympathetic to your situation. Most of the plastic surgeons that I consulted didn't believe that silicon could cause problems like that. I wish I could have made the trip to see Dr. Melmed. Good luck.
Yes I have peripheral neuropathy in my three middle fingers of my right hand. That's the side that the implant had ruptured and encapsulated. I also have peripheral neuropathy in some of my toes on my left foot. I saw a a neurologist about for five years ago because of these symptoms. They did a brain MRI at that time and found that I had lesions consistent with multiple sclerosis. unfortunately, my symptoms did not resolve after explantation, but I had my implants for almost 30 years. I figure it took a while to get my body into this mess so it might take a while for it to get out of the mess. Lol. In doing some research before my explantation I came to the conclusion that not all brain lesions on MRI are caused by MS especially if you have silicone implants. My MS is a very benign type and I sometimes wonder if I have MS at all. I'm very fortunate to have very good health otherwise. This whole explant journey has made me reevaluate my lifestyle (mostly my eating habits) and in a way I consider it a blessing in disguise. I'm probably healthier now than I have been in a long time.
Although I did not mention it in my profile, I had that 'let down reflex' sensation also. It was kind of strange because I didn't think that I would feel that ever again! Lol.
