As soon as you come out of surgery with the exchange you feel relief from the pressure of the expanders. I am on day 2 and do not need any pain meds, am sleeping on my side! I only had to wait 4 weeks after my last expansion for my surgery, I would ask why you have to wait so long.
I too had the pain down my arm, across my shoulder blades etc..... I too have been on the pain meds to get through the nights. Today is my exchange and am hopeful that the pressure will be better when I get home!
Well I am going in for my exchange this afternoon, very excited! The pain with the expanders has been a long haul. I am fortunate as I was diagnosised with LCIS back in July, stage 0, had a double mastectomy with reconstruction. The pain everyone is describing is exactly how I have been feeling. It was nice to see that my pain was real, I am not a baby! Thank you for this discussion board as my PS was not really forth coming with the pain that I would be having.
