  • Posted to RE: Problems with fat transfer? on 22 Feb 2013

I had fat transfer done Sept 2012. It was placed above my upper lip and between my eyes. I felt like Daffy Duck for many weeks but it did abosorb over time and most of the fat transfer disolves. The areas the fat was taken from (my abdomen) was more painful than the areas they injected the fat into. It has been 5 months since the fat transfer and much of it is gone. I do not think it is worth the money or risk. I think your face will get better each day. I know it is hard to be patient...but it will get better.
  • Posted to Fat Transfer to Face: I am 52 - Prefer Answers from People Who Have Had This Done in Dallas, TX on 22 Feb 2013

I will be 53 in a few days and have had fat transfer to my upper lip area and between my eyes. But I do not live in the Dallas area. I am from Kentucky. I had an accident last year which severely cut my lower lip area and chin. While doing scar revisions on these areas, I decided to have fat transfer to my upper lip. I was a smoker for many years and had wrinkles above my lips. And I have always been a frowner and had deep wrinkles between my eyes. These fat transfers were performed in September 2012. Small amounts of fat were removed from my abdomen and injected into those area. At first the fat transfer swells the area up and you hope that you will not be left with that much volume. And the area that the fat is taken from (my abdomen) was much more sore than the area it was injected into. I now have 2 small area of dimpled skin where fat was removed from eat side of my abdomen below the belly button area. Much of the fat transfer absorbed to where I look more natural. At first I felt like Daffy Duck. I have not gained any weight so I cannot tell you what the effects of that area. I do feel like I paid for fat transfer that was a loss because you are paying your surgeon and anesthesiiologist for their time and at least 1/2 of the fat transfer, if not more, will absorb. Along with fat transfer between the eyes, I had my corrugator muscle cut so I could not frown. Much to my surprise, this surgery was not successful and I was able to frown within 2 weeks. This surgeon now provides Botox injections to me, which is what I was trying to get away from. As we age our face becomes hollow and fat transfer seems the perfect way to add some volume. But I am not sure it is worth the small amount of change that you will see. And I am uncertain how many people have bad result. They certainly can't control how much will be absorbed or where the fat will adhere to and remain. I hope I have been helpful. I will check back frequently to see what information you have retrived and what decision you have made. Good luck.

You mentioned information to take to my appointment. What would that be? I am open to any help I can get at this point. Thanks.

Left side of my face is still hard with brusing and change in the texture of the skin on my cheek area. It is lumpy also. This has been here since right after surgery. The surgeon did revise the left temple area by extending the incision into the temple area and redraping the skin. It looks better than it did - but I have alot of wrinkling around my eyes. It was like the tightened skin was stopped at at this point and pulled to the sides. I had the corrigator muscle cut between my eyes to keep my from frowning as I have formed deep frown lines and kept a headache alot from over using the muscles. 6 weeks later and I can still frown and now I have a knot above each eye in the eyelid that feels about like a pea. I don't know if this is from scar tissue or fat transfer or if it will go away. I hope these will go away without the surgeon having to remove them. The right side of my face has healed great. I also had some fat infected into the area above my upper lip. It has changed the look of my mouth completely. It is like a have a swollen upper lip and it weights down the corners of my mouth. I did not want to change my features - only get rid of loose skin. I hope this continues to go down, I don't look like myself. I am trying to be patient. I returned to work last week and no-one in my office ever mentioned that I looked better or that they thought I had a facelift. The pretty much confirms my fears that this facelift did not have a good outcome. I have a follow up visit scheduled next week. Anxious to hear what the surgeon thinks about my healing and outcome.
  • Posted to Will I Need a Revision Facelift and when Can It Be Done? (photo) on 10 Oct 2012

I would like to know how you are doing now that it has been 6 months or longer. Do you still require a revision? I had a SMAS facelift 3 weeks ago and am very disappointed with the results. I never realized that only doing a lower facelift would result in numerous wrinkles at the outer edges of each eye. I feel like I traded a problem for a problem....actually I still have lax skin and NOW have wrinkles around eyes also.
