  • Posted to Is It Normal After Restylane Lip Injection to Have One Side of Your Upper Lip Swollen and the Rest of Your Lip Be Fine? (photo) on 4 May 2013

Final Result Update: The ending result of my lip ended up being that I had to get more Restylane injected to the smaller side of my lip. The unevenness never went away with massaging or time. I waited around 3 weeks to get the second injection because I wanted to wait and see if it ever went away and was kinda freaked out to get anything else done. My doctor was really great and it was a simple in and out kinda fix and bam nightmare over. From my experience, if your lips look uneven when you walk out of the doctor's office, they are going to be uneven after the swelling goes down. When I got the second injection to fill out the smaller side, as soon as the injection was over, I looked in the mirror and the upper lip was symmetrical. Of course, that night, the injected side was swollen and became bigger but that subsided in two days. I am by no means a doctor, but wanted to post the after results to help people who go through a similar ordeal to have followup of what happened. When the lip injections were evened, they looked good but i will never get injections again...i liked my lips before and was just trying something new but it made me realize that unless something really bothers me, I wasn't going to mess with it. On a side note, since the injections, on two occasions months after both injections, one side of my upper lip has swelled for no reason. It's really weird but i never had anything like it happen before injections. It always goes down within a day but it's still kinda odd...well hope this helps!

Update: I am on day three after the restylane injection and still having problems. The bump on the left half of my upper lip was driving me nuts, so I massaged it and got that smoothed out. It is swollen and naturally the left half of my upper lip is significantly larger and more puffy than the right side of the lip, which makes me look like big bird on acid. I called my doctor and he said if it was not even by Monday, that I need to come see him. I will post more update about how it is tomorrow, but I noticed here that there wasn't a lot of follow up on how suggestions and problems worked out so I wanted to make sure to keep everyone updated in case someone else goes through something similar... Here is what I have done: 1. Benadryl 2. Ice 3. Arnica Gel 4. Massage - truthfully, today, I massaged on and off and it really did help get that bump out that you can see in the picture - the problem now is that that side of the lip is significantly bigger than the other side so we will just have to see how it results... Another question for a doctor that I would like to know, is if it common to leave the injector's office with the lips looking uneven? My lips were uneven from the start, I did not know if that was normally or not as everything I have read here makes it seem like it should not have been uneven when you left the doctors office. Thanks!
