After having done a set of Invisilign to straighten my teeth, I now have Invisalign retainers and I am concerned that they are adding to my gum recession because the retainers push down all the way to the gumline. Invisalign does this so that the retainers are "invisible", but while that makes sense for the braces which are worn during the day, it doesn't for the retainers which only need to be worn at night. The retainers are thicker, and I would not be surprised if they add to the recession by pushing down on the gums, especially if you bite down on your retainers in the night. The retainers are very snug with the teeth and gums.
I've tried to cut off the bottom of the retainers to keep them from pushing against the gums so much in the hopes it'll lessen the gum recession.
