I was VERY active before my surgery like you, I am now 6 months post and still have alot of trouble running and still some minor discomfort after Cross Fit. It will take a while to get back to that. Be prepared to still be really thick for a few months after from swelling. Go the an ALL liquid diet for two weeks pre surgery and keep it for the first few weeks. Using the bathroom is painful as is sneezing. I walked the day after surgery, did not need a walker. Take all your pain meds though and try to be passed out for the first week or so if you can. I went back to work 2 weeks later but it took about a month and a half till I could stand straight. On my 3 month mark I ran 5k. Well, I made 3k running the rest walk/running. I told a few people at work at first but the stigma quickly went away and I don't care who I tell now.
What I would change? I would buy Spanx, several sets now, and when you do start working out again wear two, I wish I had done that from the beginning, because I didn't my things and legs swelled a lot and retained alot of water, the Dr. said it would take up to a year for the swelling to go completely down.
The greatest part? A HUGE weight was lifted off my shoulders I no longer think about should I, could I, isn't it vain etc. Now I just live and enjoy and dont wonder if people are staring at the gym watching my loose skin on my stomach go up and down.
