I am so sorry to hear your story :*( I had a similar treatment done 2 weeks ago and I am wondering... at what point did you realize something was really wrong? Did the depressions start out small, like pinprick or pore size, and keep getting larger? I hope to hear back from you, I am freaking out here.
I also want to say that I think this laser could be fantastic for collagen remodelling if light settings are used, and a minimum of three treatments are done, because I understand that after two treatments done a month apart, some gene is activated where when you get your third treatment, your results are amazing. This is why the results are supposedly cumulative.
Also, anyone who gets this procedure should research what settings are commonly used for what they want improved, and check the settings on the machine before lying down. If the person has them too high, question what you are doing there, and whose hands you are putting yourself in. If I were you and this scenario happens, I wouldn't even ask them to continue the procedure at reduced settings, just run, this is the type of place horror stories originate from. When you sit down in that chair, don't just ask them what settings are used, and take their word, it is your responsibility to look at the machine and make sure. To see if they know what they are doing. The higher the settings used, the higher the chance of temporary and permeant side effects, so don't go higher than you need. I had researched what settings should be used for rolling acne scars and 58 is common, so when she started at 45 I thought that was responsible to see how I would respond, before going more aggressive. So I knew I was at a good place. When I sat down for the second treatment and the settings were at 58, I knew that was common as well, for my type of scarring. 70 is appropriate for worse scarring, but not my type. So myself, I would never go higher than 58 for what I am trying to work on. More aggressive seems better but it's not. Better to have a few treatments and get that gene kick in on the third to sixth treatments.
Hi TMC, I replied to your private message with my advice from this point on. I also read your comments on other reviews and you said that you were in your early 40's and mostly had nice skin but just wanted to renew collagen. I think Retin-A and hyaluronic acid would have been a better place to start, and from what I have read, settings of 35mj with the 10mm handpiece would have been as HIGH as I think should have been used on you, I'm not sure if they do even lower just for collagen renewal. Just a light treatment to renew collagen, not an aggressive scar treatment like us with acne scarring get. For people like myself, if the overall rolling scarring can be improved, which we can't live with before treatment, the side effects of the laser are worth taking, and even if they are permanent, we are happy bc it's an improvement for us. Because you got so many pustules, my guess is that a very high setting was used. I only had two of these, very tiny like whiteheads, after my second treatment, I really feel they were because the setting was higher than the first time. Please follow my advice and leave your skin UNTOUCHED for as long as possible, even though the peeling will be hard to deal with, and the pigmentation as well. The longer you leave it the better you can reduce it later. Will be posting an update soon.
