I should have mentioned I am already doing Invisalign and am using my trays currently with a pontic. I had been whitening with these trays already. Thank you though!!
Hi Caribou! I am on tray 2 and have already encountered this issue a few times. Honestly... it's toughest in social settings. Ideally you should keep your trays in until you really need to take them out ... then put them back in asap. Sometimes that means keeping them out from the time you start your drink till you finish dessert. It's just whatever you can do to make it work.
I had to keep my trays out for about 4 hours this past Friday night because I was singing at an open mic and wanted to sip some wine a little while beforehand. I couldn't sing with them in anyway. Afterward I had a little pain during the night from the trays feeling tight since my teeth probably shifted a little without them in that long. But they felt fine in the morning.
So, I'm sure keeping them out just here and there for 1-2hrs OVER the ideal amount for social settings won't set you back terribly as long as you are diligent about keeping them in as much as possible in daily life. You just want to avoid a lot of unnecessary time without the trays in because if your teeth don't move right, you may be looking at a longer time in the trays. For example, some people can't sleep with them in, so they will have to wear them for 3 weeks each instead of two.
So you have options... it will just come with consequence if you keep them out too long too often.
Hi Lexi!!
It will be so worth it once it's over!! Don't be nervous!! Honestly... don't worry about spitting! I don't have spitting problems at all from "extra" saliva. Your trays (mainly just the top ones) gather spit in them... trapping it... so it's more of only a visual issue because you can see the spit in the trays... you won't have extra saliva everywhere that will get all over your clients :)
Also, I haven't had any breath issues from the trays. I am very conscientious of keeping them clean! I recommend keeping a toothbrush and toothpaste at work. For me, every time I take my trays out to eat at work or at home, I brush my teeth AND the trays. I was originally told not to worry about brushing the trays but doing so seems much better and will prevent buildup on the trays which I did notice the first few days. I imagine that will fight any possible odors too. I don't always use toothpaste on my trays though because I don't know if it will affect anything, so I brush my trays with just water and about every 3 days, once a day with toothpaste. so no worries! You should be fine as long as you are dedicated to keeping them clean.
