I wore the surgical bra (really just a cheap front closing no wire bra) 24/7 for one month, except for an hour after my shower in the morning and an hour or so at night to try and dry it, I used a blow dryer on cool setting to dry after shower. After a month I went topless every evening and slept topless (with a towel because there was some seeping aand as is scabbed it sometimes bled a little. During the day I used gause pads for the most part but started usng non stick bandages near the end. It kept ripping off the scab every day which was frustrating.
I had my reduction on June 11, I had "delayed healing" which started as black blisters and progressed to open sores. I was so scared, I thought it would never heal and I was afraid it would get bigger. It seemed to stretch open but no more skin was lost. I turned a corner when I cleaned out a couple of dried up bits of scab from the oroiginal blister (I was told not to touch the scabs but they were acting like a foreign object in the wound. I took my bra off every evening and went topless, also after my morning shower. I washed it twice a day with saline and one day it rapidly began to shrink. Its fully closed over now. I might have a pink scar there in addition to the incision lines but all in all I love my new shape. Hang in there ladies, it will heal!
My friend told me she continued to have scar improvement for five years. My Dr said it takes one year for a scar to 'mature' I had a tummy tuck a year ago and I am still noticing its fading as time goes.
