Thank you all for your answers, I have since then seen various dentists, and I am comfortable with one of them to go ahead and perform the biological width restoration. However, I have been told I will need to do the irritated tooth/veneer as well as the adjacent tooth to ensure the height of both gums are equal, and it doesn't look odd. any advice you can give me? thank you for your insights, obviously my first dentist didn't know what he was doing - and I could have easily avoided all of this!
