Hi dance girl,
I'm 48 and i wish i could 'speak' to my 19 year old self. If I could, here is what I'd say...
''a BR is not a scary as you think! The ache in your neck and upper back, the stares from men, the comments and how you find clothing to fit and look as nice as you want to look, the embarrassment of being looked at in a bikini and the difficulty when dancing, running, jumping and feeling free to move comfortably is worse then the post op discomfort of a BR. The benefits of feeling pain free, light and able to move and look fabulous, wear what you want to and being able to move freely whether you jump, swim, dance or for just being happy are worth a few small scars which will fade eventually and the rest for a few week after you op. To my 19 year old self- go and do it now. Please do not wait until you are 48 and for decades suffer all the above issues. Life is short- live it at its fullest. You are only young once- get it done and good luck''.
That is what I would say to myself and to you. It is well worth it. Think it through and research it well, but be realistic about how your life is now with all the pain and lack of freedom to dance and look at the benefits of having normal sized boobs. Then see a PS and weight it all up then decide....good luck. x x
Hi CLm123,
Please, please try not to be scared! I am 48 and had my BR on 29th Aug 2012 and its the best thing i have ever done for myself. I too was terrified and this part is the worst aspect of the whole BR process! I have had 2 C-Sections and i recovered well but give me a BR any day! Yes you'll be a little bit sore but nothing like an abdominal op. Yes you will be tired- just sleep and rest when your body tells you to. I was a 34 GG/H (UK size) and i am now a 34 Full B/small C. I love my new boobs and for the 1st 6 weeks i did nothing but eat well, (lots of vitamin C) and walk as much as i felt happy with initially in my garden then gently around the village in stages, and each day i had a bird bath; eg washed my hair (my partner did this for the 1st week) and kept my boobs dry for 10 weeks at my PS instruction.
I wore a bra bought from the NCT which was just cotton and front fastening for the first 4 weeks. Once my nipple sutures were out and my paper sutures off, i wore a genie bra (i found this brand the best as Ahh bras fray after a few washes in my experience) day and night. I still do now and just 1-2 night a week i go without a bra. My Ps said at 4 months I could wear an underwire if i felt comfortable but it wasn't nice. I waited until 2 weeks ago and it feels better. But Genie Bras (and now i'm back at work) i wear the pads with it and i feel really comfortable. Swelling? You will know. If you wear a soft bra like Ahh or Genie you but your top eg size 12 or 10 whatever. If you buy a wire free bra look what size you think you are and try it on. Any discomfort dont wear it! PLease dont be nervous. A BR is very liberating! x
Hi rosie,
forgive the late reply as i don't come on here as often as i would like due to work issues! The cost was £6,000. (I am an NHS RN so i had a discount and actually paid £5, 200). My ps does this for NHS staff bless him he is a great surgeon and a good man. I'm not aware of any other PS who do this for NHS staff). I was with the Nuffield and i had to pay in full a week before my op date. You can take out a laon using the company the Nuffiled have on their website and you can pay over 10 mths interest-free or longer with interest. Have a look and see what you think?
If B/f isnt an issue then go with whatever procedure suits you to be the size you want. I can positively say... you will love your new boobs and wonder why on earth you were worrying! I've had 2 C-Sections and my BR was nothing in comparison! Well worth the worry and i really did have NO NEED to worry as i feel so great. SHould have done it sooner if i had known how well I would feel post op compared to how sore and heavy i felt pre-op. x x
Hi sandbags,
Glad to hear you are doing well. Great op isn't it? I understand about the 'belly' issue! I found my 'small area (my hips and tummy) is now my big bit! I'm working on this now and i've given up on chocolate as i eat too much of it!
Work is fine. I found i had some tightness at times and I stood bent over to relieve the ache!! I'm now 5 months and i am still finding my boobs slightly boxy buti have to remind myself i am still early days. 'Speak' soon and look after yourself x
