Thanks so much for sharing that, Tanya. You are a strong, intelligent lady! My brother came out about two years ago as FTM trans and gay (my sister was attracted to guys, so no, orientation doesn't change with transition). I've always been a proud GLBT ally, but it means something different now that my family is "family."
I have you say you are right, Ariana, about the trans community being one community. I think it might be helpful to have separate links or info for M or F, or just some way for people to find which they're looking for a little more easily, but i definitely think trans issues in general could definitely be under one header and have shared/common boards (not really sure how the structure is here, just generating ideas). I'm just thinking there will definitely be some different surgeries depending on the transition and some different experiences too (though i think they're valid for everyone to learn and understand from). And of course, there's always the fact that transition doesn't *always* include surgeries, so there's a lot of room for a lot of ideas :)
Just wanted to say i'm thrilled to see this topic being taken so genuinely by this site. This was something that i stumbled upon, and i'm not a "regular" reader here, but it could be a really supportive place for trans people and that's a great thing. You might consider having separate sections for trans-girls and trans-guys. Really glad your office is excited about it though. Don't hesitate to contact me or check out some places like GLAAD or HRC.com>issues>transgender for more information!
Thank you, Makenzie! Speaking as an ally and advocate, it is much appreciated. I realize that there is a dearth of information, and no small amount of confusion, out there right now about how to properly address and reference trans issues - that goes for people within the GLBT/ally community as well as general population. There's a lot of work to be done, thanks for taking my comment seriously.
