Dear "In Pain", you were clearly not given enough after care instructions. I have had CO2 laser resurfacing twice, the first time 13 yrs ago, and just recently 2 weeks ago Active FX & Deep FX full face, neck & chest done. I had pain medication that I didn't even need to take. On day one I applied frozen pea's for 10 minutes at a time throughout the day. I didn't remove the Aquaphor or wash my face until day two. I took a paper towel and placed it on my face (do not rub) to gently absorbed the Aquaphor by peeling it off my face. There was still some Aquaphor present, but very little. Then I used Cetaphil a gentle cleanser and rinsed with cool water. And the last and very important step was to used distilled white vinegar (1 table spoon to to cup of cool water) and using a paper towel soaked in solution, gently dab or squeeze it onto your face, DO NOT rub. Vinegar has natural healing properties and it is so diluted that there is no sting or pain involved, it is actually soothing. I was instructed to apply the water and vinegar 3 to 4 times a day for the first 3 days. After each application I put on a generous amount of Aquaphor. I was also instructed to take "Buffered Ascorbic Acid" 1000mg 5 to 6 times a day until the bottle was finished. This also aids in healing along with drinking a lot of water. I peeled on schedule and still have red, pink and blotchy areas on my face and area's that are itchy and a lot of tiny pimples that will go away. In 30 to 60 days you will see a new you so hang in there. So sorry for your pain and discomfort.
