IPL is something that i really dont understand its popularity. It just is a money maker for businesses but with little results. It requires several treatments. It is a light and not a laser. There are several lasers that with one treatment will remove 80% of the spots. this treatment is about 575 per 15 minutes and hands take about 10 minutes for most people. Post care must be done but I am rather astonished that people keep offering IPL when better technology with fantastic cheaper results are out there. One of my clinics was built on the failure of IPL pts and the referrals to a treatment that would actually work with little risk or downtime. Patients should be informed as unfortunately you may find yourself a victim. I expect many IPL fans will be a furious but this is fact and I would be happy to compare one treatment with 6 treatments for an IPL.
oh, sorry. i dont like IPL. it is light, requires multiple treatments where u can get results with one treatment of Lasers. IPL is not a laser and can be done by non physicians.
Yes. I have worked with fraxel. There are some people that get results but u can get the same results for 500 dollars with the aura laser with less downtime. Lasers generally are not for skin of color period. For most people, if some topical is not used to turn off the melanin, the pigment will return and be worse. Stopping waxing of the upper lip etc can alleviate the pigment as well if this is what caused it in the first place.
Fraxel or IPL does not give long lasting results to hyperpigmentation. The superficial injury actually stimulates melanin to be produced so the discolorations usually returns. There is a safe alternative but it requires maintenance and NO sun exposure. NO microderm, no lasers as these induce pigmentation expecially in people of color. I hope this helps.
First, as a physician, I am not a fan of Fraxel. In general if one is treating pigmentation it is a poor long term choice. If one is treating dermal scars, this is quackery. The superficial acne scars that look like small caves may have some results especially initially as any swelling of that area would improve. HOwever, ice pick or deep scars are dermal in origin and No laser not even CO2 resurfacing will address these. I am so sorry but this is the medical fact and the rest is just marketing. Smoke and mirrors. such a shame for the profession.
