Lizi-Congrats on your surgery! Such a process...Still to this day have trouble believing that I actually went through with it. LOL
I was so hung up on the exercise thing in the beginning. I think I worried about not being able to exercise more than something serious happening. Silly because all said and done it was minimal time out of my routine and really nothing but good came out of it.
When I started back to exercising, I went back and thought I was taking it easy. Well, looking back now, I will tell you that I definitely wasn't playing it as safe as I should of been. It really took me until 8 weeks to even allow myself mentally to PUSH it though. Now at 12+ weeks, I still have the MR in the back of my mind but it is affecting my workouts less and less. I don't hesitate to jump down or snap up..Grab the rope and climb it! I'm getting there. All I can tell you is time...It was a good 6 week process to get back up my endurance/strength and I still have a little weakness in my pull ups..Most likely from mental hesitation than strength at this point but still not back FULL. I would say 90% back.
My doctor reassured me that nothing I would do at this point would damage the surgery..I'm just like the average person working out and even normal people hurt themselves...She said stop obsessing. Only time is going to alleviate the hesitation and concern and that is SO true.
My advice - Get back into it. You are far enough out that you can now start to push..Realize swelling WILL come. LOL Don't panic. Your body will work it's way through it and it will slowly get back to normal. I was given NO lifting restrictions at 6 weeks. Go for it. Gradually build back up until you are lifting at your old weights and then improve. Honestly, everything seems to be working better for me since my muscle repair. The tightness will relax and you will eventually feel less pulls and pains. You are still a few weeks out for that.
If it HURTS stop. If it is discomfort, work through it.
Bellaluna-Yay for sensation coming back! I'm pretty convinced that I tore a suture or two around my belly button. It will heal. My flanks came back first..then it was a long time for any other definition. Just recently discovered my obliques again. Unfortunately, I know it's all swelling related and if I do a good solid ab workout.. No definition for days. LOL So frustrating but I'm actually finding it somewhat amusing now. It's like a game. ;)
Bella-FB away with questions. I'm more than happy to answer any and everything.
Here's the thing- I'm the same way with working out. I work out for hours..but training myself to think of it more like QUALITY over QUANTITY. Really, think about it. I go to the Y..I can do several classes and workouts. I go to Crossfit and it's game on. In and out in 30-45 minutes and I'm getting the same thing accomplished. Totally retraining my mind. It is 90% DIET. You can't OUT TRAIN a bad diet..
As awful as it is to say, Carbs are the devil. No matter what type of carb (yes, even the good ones) in the end they hold you back from the ultimate goal..you and I are both looking for. I'm working on this myself.
I hear ya with the starving which leads to bad food choices. I'm a HUGE fan of PB and Almond butter. I dunk a banana in the jar. LOL
It's really simple but hard to follow-Eat the rainbow. Lean proteins, fruits, veggies, nuts and healthy fats. That leads to ultimate wellness.
Not to mention-I'm on a newborn baby feeding schedule. Every 2-3 hours but instead of taking in milk of the sort..I'm doing protein.
Fire away girl. Your goal is TOTALLY realistic and achievable. From someone who was 242 pds...Anything is possible!
Here's a motto- Potato, grains, and corn are for farm animals. Unless you want to look like one, minimize them! ;)
