It is interesting information. I would really like to know the incidence of nodule or granuloma formation from Radiesse. It is known fact that Sculptra causes granuloma formation (it is in its packet insert), therefore I don’t like to use that product. I have performed about thousand cases with Radiesse (never in lips or under the eyes). But I have yet to see a single patient I have treated with Radiesse who developed granuloma to my best knowledge. If it is true, I guess it is quit rare with Radiesse. It also was not reported in clinical trial published in the packet insert for Radiesse. Theoretically, granuloma/nodule may develop from any dermal filler. You can Google it and find anecdotal reports for nodule/granuloma formation after all kinds of fillers and Restylane and other products are not exceptions. But thanks for sharing your experience.
It is important to know what Juvederm can do and what it cannot.
Results of the procedure depend a lot on injector such as his/her skills, artistic touch and your expectation. Any dermal filler has limited application for treatment of Perioral lines ( I assume you had so called “smokers lines”) If you have only 1-2 lines per side of each lip and the lines are deep then you can have good results with fillers. But if your lines are very fine, superficial and there are more then a few lines per each side of the lip use of dermal fillers does not produce desired results. For one, dermal fillers ( in this case Juvederm) cannot smooth out texture problem of the skin ( which is very superficial lines) and second, if you have many lines to fill you will end up having as you said “duck lip”. Every case is very unique and requires different approach. For fine lines it might be better laser resurfacing which by itself has its indication and contraindication.
If you don’t like the way you lips look after Juvederm you may look for a doctor who will inject Hyluronidase (medication that dissolves Juvederm within one day after its injection.
Radiesse is great dermal filler but I would not recommend it for a lip augmentation since this product is too thick and tends to cause lumps formation in the lip area. Juvederm on another hand is much softer product and it gives much more natural results. It will last about 6-8 month depending on the amount used. I noticed that the clients who have 3-4 sessions with Juvederm over the period of one or two years tend to have much longer lasting results. I use Radiesse a lot for mid and lower face reshaping such as non-surgical nose reshaping, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, jowls, chin augmentation, cheek augmentation, and facial lipoatrophy.
