Tipping is an awful tradition. If I'm happy with a good job, I reluctantly tip 20% and usually give a $50 gift at Christmas to hair stylists and manicurists. Otherwise, you get shabby service and a careless attitude can be dangerous....
The 'stylist' that dumps her client to shake you down for extra bucks is a disgrace to her profession.
The stylist who dumps another client to work on you for extra bucks is a disgrace to her profession.
If your hairdresser is that good, he charges what he's worth and doesn't deserve, nor does he NEED a tip.
SALON OWNERS ARE NOT TO BE TIPPED!! I always tip the others that work on my hair but never the owner. Owners charge what their services are worth. At Christmas Time I give the owner a $100 as a gift. Many I know do this also.
