I had Botox around my mouth a year and a half ago to correct my slightly crooked smile. It changed my smile drastically in a negative way, and the effect lasted for three months. I just had to wait it out. The Plastic Surgeon that gave the injections (a decision that was made while I was in the chair getting one vial of lip filler) was very confident that the Botox would be an easy fix to my minor issue....and he did not discuss any negative possibilities. My lip filler turned out great...but I could not enjoy my slight lip plump because my smile looked like I was crying out in pain for about three months. Specifically, my lower lip did lower to show my bottom teeth when I smiled; so smile in the mirror while keeping you bottom teeth covered and you get the idea of my results. Oi. The Surgeon's response when I saw him five days later (when issue became apparent) was that it should go away in about a month because he'd used very little Botox to treat the issue. Again, I didn't look happy when I smiled for three months, and I would never have Botox or similar products injected in the lower portion of my face again.

One must be very cautious with all injections. I’ve had very good and bad results with both Botox/Dysport and Restylane over the past two years- and I’ve always seen experienced doctors with excellent reputations. It is apparent from your photo that you are attractive with nice features and pretty skin. My experiences have taught me to not nit-pick my looks too much and to take better care of my skin and body overall, that is, to focus on prevention and preserving; such as, I now sleep on my back (which took determination and several pillows), I eat better and use sunscreen with antioxidants (physical block) every day.

Dana77~ Sorry for the delay; I just saw your comment. Yes, all of my bruising did go away- it could be covered by makeup after 2 weeks and was completely gone after 3 to 4 weeks; finally and thankfully and I consider myself lucky. I had read that when the red-brown stain persists that a v-beam laser (I believe that was the corrent type) would help. Hopefully, yours is all healed by now. I stayed out of sight socially for pretty much 2 weeks which is why it is highly unlikely that I will have under-eye injections again. The risk of significant bruising is always there from fillers even from the most educated and expensive injectors, and especially under the eyes. In the future, I'll opt for under-eye surgery to get longer lasting results and a better value for the money with about the same down-town.

SallyAnne- I recommend you have the Doc call in a steriod pack (pill series) to reduce the swelling; I was surprised by how much and how quickly this improved my lips. You'll know in 48 hours after starting steriods what you think of your lips w/out swelling clouding the issue.

I feel your frustration- I'm finally truly happy with my smile again- after nearly 2 months....I could hide out for a bit with-in a close circle of friends and family...and they helped me not take it too seriously...but, I was still bothered by my appearance for six weeks solid. Being in the public eye, as you are, would be a lot more diffifult. Restylane seems to dissolve very slowly...when you WANT it to fade; I suggest you not hesitate to dissolve (a bit of it at least)...if you are not happy on a daily / hourly basis. Good luck - update, please. : ))

Hi, Brighid- I posted just before you about not being happy with the Resty in my lips. I ended up not having it dissolved as I had planned. And now, two weeks since I had it injected, I am happy with my lips. They are nicely plumped, but my duck bill / trout pout (that extended over my bottom lip) is gone. In my case, the swelling was uncommonly intense- maybe this is the case for you too? My doctor prescribed a steroid pack (4 days) that reduced my swelling SIGNIFICANTLY over-night. My experience with fillers (eyes / lips) is that the "down time" has always been longer than the PS informed me, and longer than the general impression I get from reading on this site- and I’m a healthy active person that does everything “correct” regarding prep and home-care. For me, swelling lasts a week, not a couple of days and bruises last 2 weeks (or more) not a week.
Phone your doctor and have a prescription to reduce the swelling phoned in to a pharmacy for you. I looked ridiculous until I took those meds. Now I am quite happy and even surprised that I AM happy because I was SO unhappy those first few days. I suggest you take Tylenol PM so you can sleep well (heal well) and sleep on your back with an extra pillow to elevate your head. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and go for brisk walks to keep your circulation / metabolism active. I walked at night for a few days. : )) HTH
