Hi Nervous TT,
I had terrible itching too. Kept me awake and was unbearable. My PS prescribed oral steroids which did provide some relief. I have been using Aveeno body wash with cool showers. (Hot showers feel great but just lead to more inflamation on the rash). I also mix neosporin with cortaid (I tried benadryl creme, but prefer cortaid w/ aloe)and rub it (really I scratch)all over. I also take oral benedryl which helps a little. I am 14 days post op and believe me I feel your suffering.I hope this helps. We have sensative skin.
Hi There!
Dr. Prescott is located in Walnut Creek. He is a little more pricey than the other two PS I consulted with, but I really felt like he listened to my concerns and I trust him. I also liked that a nurse came home with me that first night. My surgery went very well. Dr. Prescott has his own surgery center. I had No nausea or vomiting. I highly recommend the EMEND pill which revents nausea and vomiting. The pain was very managable. i was able to switch to Tylenol on my second day post op. It hurt most trying to get on and off the toilet. My midsection keeps shrinking more and more every day! Unfortunately, I have developed a very annoying and itchy rash from the surgical tape and my abs are inflamed as I write this. I was put on steroids. I will be happy to post pictures soon!
Hi There!
I would go with the loose dress. With the binder, drains, and bandages, anything around your waist area ( like loose sweats or yoga pants) can be a hinderance immediately post op.
I wore a very soft cotton terry swimsuit cover up. It zips all the way down. Bought it at walmart for 15 dollars. My ps even commented how how functional it is. I wear it for sleep and my post ops. Wish I bought more. Also the nurse that stayed w/ me advised 2 pillows for the car ride home (1 for back and 1 for tummy w/seatbelt over it) Hope this helps.
Hi Marinemom,
I rented a hospital bed. Here in the bay area you have to rent for a full month, but I'm glad. The bed has mini rails on the side which I use my arm strength to help me pull myself out of bed. You will be depending on your arm and legs. You will get your best sleep/rest in a hospital bed. I also have a recliner which I haven't used yet. I am 5 days post op. I also am borrowing my MIL's old walker(it really saves the back and encourages me to walk). Getting on and off the toilet hurt the most. I have handrails which were easy to install (did it myself day before surgery) good luck to you!
