I think some people just heal differently than others. I had a gastric and they gave me morphine and I got sicker than anything. Told them no pain meds. So I spent 3 days in the hospital cuz that is recovery time with no pain meds. They thought I was crazy. But it just felt like I did 2 trillion situps. Just dealt with the pain. Got home and went in a week later for chk up and Dr. was like wow, you are doing fantastic. Fastest healer I have seen ever. Well, he gave me ins and outs months prior to surgery about the what to do and not to do. I was on vitamin regimine and had been with C and E for years and that made my healing so much faster. Then not taking the prescribed pain meds after the fact, did take antibiotics helped in healing. So a few years later I have tummy tuck. Got pain meds again and of course didn't take them but did antibiotcis. In a week my stitches needed removed and surgeon was floored. I said well I attribute the healing process to no pain meds and vitamins. Truly magically stuff there. So I have made a point never to take meds for pain relief. Even a periodic headache which since the bypass has all but disappeared as well as my acid reflux disease. If I do get any pain like in joints from age and being obese for a long time I usually drink a glass of wine or have a martini. For headaches good old fashioned coffee with a little dash of dark chocolate syrup. I drink tons of water so that helps filter my body of toxins. I do want the smartlipo and saving for that. I have pockets that no matter what I can't get rid of. Like on the back area, hips, thighs. I think I might do my arms too. For my tummy tuck my hubby was out of town and I took a taxi there and home. Didn't have any issues at all but did have neighbor check on me to make sure I was ok since he was out of town. I did it without him knowing a thing so I could surprise him when he got home. He was actually mad I did a tummy tuck without him being around. He fears for my safety. Anyway.....I am going to do smartlipo and of course will not do any pain meds and stick to my normal vitamin regimen and am sure my healing will be astronomically fast. I think Dr's should really look into this. If people really honestly can't deal with pain and can't just breath deep and tell their brain it doesn't hurt then create a medication that doesn't inhibit the bodies natural healing process. I believe that is what drugs do. Your body is one smart cookie and knows what it needs and when it needs it. This is why we eat things we do cuz our body is telling our brain, I need carbs or I need protein or I need water. We are such great machines and have just touched the tip of the iceberg on how they function. Anyway, if you can do without the pain meds after any surgery, stick to a vitamin regimine then you will heal at lightening speed.
