that's easy to say "ask a lot of questions.." but how do we know what questions to even ask if this is the first time we have ever had this type of surgery. Having plastic surgery isn't something we feel comfortable just discussing in public. We learn as we go along and learn by reading websites like this. I would have never known about how deep a surgeon should go to tighten the neck unless I read your post. When I go back to see my PS I will bring your post with me to see if this is why my neck is sagging already. I just had my FL done in July 2010.

The same thing happened to me but my PS was pretty upfront with me from my first visit - he did not give me unrealistic expectations. I did not expect that I would look perfect - just better. I am considering having this fixed since I spent $12,000 for my FL and I have this rebound thing too. Read more below.

You can read more by going to the website. This can happened to any patient over the age of 35 because we don't have the elasticity in our skin like a young person.

This is called rebound relaxation. This is the change in the neck that will happen to some patients six to twelve months after their initial facelift. This may appear as looseness of the central neck skin, the appearance of lumps or fat areas along the jowls and submandibular areas, and recurrence of platysmal bands. These developments are unsettling to patients as they understandably believed that their relatively recent effort physical and economic sacrifices would provide a more long lasting effect.

In reality, and I advise all my Indianapolis facelift patients, that bothersome rebound neck relaxation will happen in about 10% to 15% of patients. It is more likely in patients with fuller necks and more severe neck sagging but not exclusively so.

Hi Lyndie - first I am happy with my results. This was the first time for me too. Not one person noticed I had anything done because my surgeon was very conservative - BUT my turkey neck is GONE! Yeah! I hated my neck and I felt like when I spoke to anyone under the age of 30 they were not listening to what I said but looking at that saggy skin under my chin! It's gone now! I feel so much better about myself. I was laid off from my job after 7 years and I felt that looking refreshed would help boost my self-esteem. Now comes the job of finding a new job. The bumps under my ears were gone by the 5th week. Not everyone gets these bumps - and I am not sure why I had them, but bottom line is this is 6 weeks after my surgery and no more bruises or bumps. Everyone heals at a different rate so you may be okay after 2 weeks. I didn’t feel comfortable going out into public until 3 weeks – I could have gone out but it took a long time to cover up the bruises it was easier to just wait another week. Everyone heals at a different rate. Your doctor knows you best and he know his work so trust your doctor. Hang in there – you are going to like your results too, especially based on the fact that your doctor has received awards for his work. Who could ask for more? I bet you will be gorgeous!

When I went into the OR there was a picture on the wall of a lady. I wondered who that old tired looking lady was... when I went for my first follow up appt. the picture was in my file. I asked who it was and the Dr. said it was me! I had no idea I looked that old - in my minds eye I knew I was starting to look old as a matter of fact - my 5 yr old grandson said Me-me “You look old” and then he asked me for a snack. I gave it to him anyway :-), but I honestly didn't know I looked that bad until I saw the pictures he took in February. My surgery looks good - I look maybe 7 years younger - but not half as tired as I looked in February. I had no idea it was going to take this long to heal – and this really was quite an intense involved surgery, which I didn’t know about either. But good thing because I didn’t want anything to hold me back from getting this done. I got laid off from my job after 7 years and I need all the help I can get to get another job – looking old doesn’t help at all in our youth oriented society. I can’t say “no more surgery for me” I just don’t know. I think if I had the money I would have other things fixed – but this was expensive and I have drained my savings with the Facelift surgery. Maybe when I get a job I can start to save up for then next if I think I need it. Take care & Happy Sunday
