Explant

As used on RealSelf.com, the term "explant" generally refers to the removal of a cosmetic implant (usually the removal breast implants).  People decide to have their breast implants removed or explanted for many reasons that may include capsular contracture (excessive breast firmness), natural breast growth that makes implants unnecessary, or breast implant leakage or deflation. To explant a cosmetic implant requires surgery, so explantation procedures are usually performed by plastic surgeons.  Explant surgery may also be combined with other surgical procedures, such as a breast lift or mastopexy.
