Not Worth It
Spent: $349 in Brooklyn, NY
So i finally decided to get this done after thinking about it for a while. Prep took 30 min and then you sit under this light for an hour with your mouth propped open. The pain started 30 min. into it. But 5 hours later i was ready to pull all my teeth out it hurt so bad. Advil did not do anything for me. However by the next morning the pain was gone. The results were Ok but not as white as I expected. My gums are in pretty bad condition now and I am not sure how long it will take them to heal.. I can hardly brush because they start bleeding. No stainging foods/drinks or cigarettes for 48 hours... I think i lasted the night and then of course I smoked and I am drinking coffee out of a straw. Would I do it again...probably not.. whitestrips would probably work just as well.

I'm 40, used to be a heavy coffee drinker, but not a smoker. My teeth were yellowish (but normal) and I have never tried tooth whithening before. Two weeks ago I did it for the first time. The doctor took a before and after pic of my teeth and it looked impressive. I didnt drink one single cup of coffee since the day of the procedure, and avoided any darkish food/drink (I almost went nuts drinking just milk for the first two days). I even bought caffeinated gums (white gums) so I was not deprived of caffeine. Well, the point is that the yellow color came back slowly, and 10 days after the procedure it was the same than before the procedure. I took my own before/after pics. Definitely NOT worth it. When I asked the dentist TWICE how long the effect would last, he responded with "we are going to give you a tray for free so if you want to try in a month or so...". Now I know why he never answered my question straightforwardly. It costed $450 and is NOT worth it at all. And supposedly I was an ideal candidate for whithening...

I also am very disappointed in the zoom whitening. The dentist never took before and after photos and didnt even do it himself. He had a very young assistant do the procedure. No questions were asked about medications and nothing was told to me about having my teeth cleaned before zoom whitening ( I've read in articles that both may affect the outcome). I didn't see much of a difference leaving the office and was given trays with the bleaching gel to do twice daily for at least two weeks. No coffee or dark colored foods( I'm ready to rip someones head off since I can't have coffee or caffeinated soda) Also, wasn't told any of this beforehand. I have yellowish teeth with spots of white. They actually look worse than before. My son who is 11years old looked at my teeth and said ,"Mommy your teeth look like popcorn with butter--a little white and yellow mixed together." I have complained but was told to keep on using the trays and bleach for at least a couple more weeks. I agree absolutely not worth it!!!!!
Not a Zoom! fan... (1 post) 28 Jun 2008
I had my teeth 'whitened' by Zoom and they did not change colour at all. I had severe pain for 2 days and felt utterly ripped off. I so far haven't got my money back as the 'dentist' has told me that my teeth have changed colour by 5 shades according to his chart. I have sent photographic evidence to prove this, however so far,I am yet to get any joy. What an absolute waste of money - I had better results with Crest Whitening Strips and would recommend that if you want whiter teeth, you go on ebay and buy the gel that the dentist uses for under fiver.

Was not worth it! I am extremely disappointed! My teeth were slightly whitened after the procedure, but not by much. Two weeks later, they are the same color as they were before the procedure!! I paid $605!! I feel very ripped off. My dentist said, "Teeth are a natural substance. Not everyone's teeth will be able to be brightened". Funny how he said this AFTER the procedure and not before. He has agreed to Zoom them for me again, but will not return any portion of my money, even though he agrees that there is minimal improvement in the color of my teeth! Save your money people! Crest Whitestrips will do the SAME thing for MUCH LESS money! I should have listened to my orthodontist, who told me this two years ago. Instead, I believed this dentist who was all too eager to take my money!
