“Worth it - although a lifestyle change”
Invisalign: Worth it
Pain: Uncomfortable
I'm 36 and have about 6 weeks to go on my top teeth and 10 to go on the bottom (13 total on top and 15 on bottom).
I was always very self-conscious about my smile, even though a lot of people said they couldn't understand why I thought I needed braces. Regardless, my entire appearance has changed since my teeth are now almost to the point of being finished.
Maybe it's that I smile more confidently, I don't know. All I know is that it will change your teeth for the better. I did have to have some filing, but it didn't hurt at all.
The cons: dry mouth, chapped lips, no snacking. I have adjusted to all of these by drinking more water, using tons of lip balm, and eating a bit more at mealtimes. It's a big challenge to always find a place to brush and floss after mealtimes, but you get used to brushing in public places.
Overall my experience has been good simply because of the result. They are not completely invisible, but much less noticeable than traditional braces. That said, I am really looking forward to being done with this process and just wearing a retainer at night, even though that is not going to be for 5 months or so.
I would say if you are considering it, make sure you have a good dentist, and be prepared for a lifestyle adjustment. In sum, it's still worth it, and no form of teeth straightening comes without discomfort and habit changes.
